North East College Magazine
Competiotion-2017 Awards dispensed

August 1st 2017, USTM: University of Science and
Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) at a gala ceremony
in Hotel Landmark, had declared the winners of
2nd North East College Magazine Competition. The
publication cell of University of Science and
Technology Meghalaya had started this
initiative, NE College Magazine Competition in
the year 2016 as an integral part of North East
Graduate Congress, whereby young energetic
promising writers, editors, graphic designers of
different college magazines across North Eastern
states are encouraged and recognized for their
creative talent. University of Science &
Technology (USTM), Meghalaya, the first private
university in the North Eastern Region, working
relentlessly towards achieving the goal of
becoming one of the premier Universities in the
country by bringing together leading
academicians, researchers entrepreneurs,
thinkers, administrators, corporate and other
stakeholders under one platform. The idea is to
synergize their expertise with a view to impart
world class education, exploring opportunities
and talents of north east region, thereby,
creating a centre of innovative research and
societal development capable of playing a
significant part in the process towards Building
Scientific Temperament and a Knowledge Capital”.
Under the Best Magazine category the first three
prizes were bagged by Alochani by Digboi
College, Jabian by J.B. College and Lakhimpur
Girls College Magazine by Lakhimpur Girls
College respectively.
Cottonian by Cotton College was adjudged under
Best Cover category, Manash Pratim Rajbanshi, a
4th Semester student of Nalbari College won the
award for his article “Moraha Fulor Xubah” under
the Best Article category, Dipsikha Baruah of
Digboi College won the Best Woman Editor award,
Priyanka Nath, 6th Semester student of K.C Das
Commerce College Best Woman Writer award for her
article Nishigandha. MOSAIC 2016 of St Anthony’s
College Shillong, Meghalaya and RENDEZVOUS 16 of
Salesian College of Higher Education, Dimapur,
Nagaland bagged the Special Jury Award. Having
received their awards, the winners were so happy
and overwhelmed as this was just a beginning of
their career.
Opening the ceremony, Chief Guest of the
program, Shri R.S. Mooshahary, Former Governor
of Meghalaya stated “North East College Magazine
Competition, I believe, is another unique
venture of University of Science and Technology
Meghalaya. This university has already laid its
mark through its continuous improvement in
academic excellence, research activities, its
innovative ideas have made it stand out, its
acceptance and popularity can be assessed by the
increasing number of students enrolling every
year. The young writers of college magazines who
have won awards under different category will
definitely be benefitted by this recognition and
I hope the winners will get more opportunity to
prove their creative talent through USTM”.
While congratulating the winners, Mr. Mahbubul
Hoque said “the idea of holding North East
College Magazine Competition has been
conceptualized and celebrated as an impetus to
encourage and inculcate the creative instinct in
the minds of the young generation. If the young
generation get involved in any kind creativity,
be it writing, composing a poem or music or even
inventing some scientific model, they will not
get distracted to other activities’. North East
Magazine College Magazine Competition is another
example towards that end. “Creative
visualization is a mental technique that uses
the imagination to make dreams and goals come
true. Used in the right way, creative
visualization can improve one’s life and attract
success and prosperity. It is a power that can
alter your environment and circumstances, cause
things to happen and this competition will
definitely give opportunity to the rising
writers to sharpen their creative
visualization”- stated Prof N.K. Chaudhury,
Principal Adviser, ERDF.
This was 2nd North East College Magazine
Competition held during 4th North East Graduate
Congress, the most acclaimed flagship program
patronized by ERD Foundation in the month of
February 17th to 19th, 2017. This year the
university had got around 200 entries from
various colleges magazines across NE states. A
four-member Jury Board comprising eminent
editors, columnists, writers had decided decide
five different categories of awards like Best
Editorial, Best Cover Page, Best Editor (women),
Best Article (women), Best Article (general) and
Best writer. The members of the Jury Board were

Laskar, former executive editor of the Eastern
Chronicle, Bijoy Ghimire, Editor of the Mileage
Magazine and Prof. Nilima Bhagwati, Dean, School
of Social Sciences and Humanities, USTM. |
